Do American Readers like me
Since I'm way over here in the USA, I'm not sure how well I'm really doing with German readers. I hope Germany enjoys the book as much as I enjoy Germany. (I've been to Germany 3 times and love it!)
In America, I have a a great group of readers who support my writing, but I'm a long way from sellling as many books as J.K. Rowling. Ha! I'm, not sure how it is in Germany, but in the USA so many books are published each it's very difficult for an author to break out of the pack and get noticed. A producer in Hollywood is currently seeking funding to make Go-Go into a movie. I hope he succeeds because often a good film will bring more attention to the book.

Ideas for books
At any given time I have about a dozen ideas for books in my head ... some are fantasy and some are not. I just wish I had time to get to all of those ideas. I also write for Marvel Comics and those deadlines make it hard to focus on my novels some time.

i am also a writer of fantasy and perhaps you´ll may have a look to the fatal side of GoGoGirls, Zombiegirls or "Twilight". May be, it´s a spectacular hype for the new type of former horrorfull figures like vampires, but it is also a clash of culture for the so called "fantasy". Especially in Germany we can see a phenomena at bookstores. The racks, former filled with "Fantasy" or "Horror", are now defined as "Fantasy-Porn" or "Mystery-Sex". The some rack, which presents "Lord of the Rings" and other high fantasy. That´s not an error of the wirters, but a fatal Promotionaction from the publishers, who force the erotic side of fantasy to win new readers. Have you registered the some "veolution" in bookstores of your own country?

I'm not sure I've noticed
I'm not sure I've noticed that on book shelves here in American book stores. Gernerally there is a section in the book store in which science fiction and fantasy is lumped together, and there is a staggering variety of types of stories, sub-genres, etc. That means -- as a reader -- I either need to do a lot of research before entering the store or I need to devote a lot of time, reading the summaries of books, etc. to decide what I'm going to buy. I haven't really noticed a big rend toward the erotic.
As a writer, I hardly think about genre at all. I simply write the story that seems good to me and let the publisher decide what shelf to put it on.

My first book
My first novel was was a hard boiled crime story called GUN MONKEYS. I wrote it while I was still in grad school. As a penniless student I had no video games or TV to distract me, so I'd finish my studies each night and then get to work on my novel.

How long to write it?
That's a hard question to answer because there was a lot of stopping and starting on this novel. At first, I wanted to make the novel very serious like THE ROAD, but I decided that just wasn't my style. I like to be satirical and irreverent, so I started over after about 20 pages. Once I got my direction straight, it took about eight months.
